ColdFusion 10 Logging In Multiple Instances Settings

Posted by Mike Brunt at 7:54 PM Web Servers | CloudComputing | Java-JVM | ColdFusion

There is a problem with the default behavior of ColdFusion 10 multiple instance install as it pertains to logging.  When we first install ColdFusion 10 an instance is created called "cfusion" and in a Windows default install the path to the logs is as follows...C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\logs.

With ColdFusion 10 Enterprise version, comes the ability to create multiple instances, however when we do this, all subsequent instances inherit the C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\logs setting, in consequence the logging is inaccurate and not of much use.  In a case from our labs, we created and instance named workInstance-01 which creates this  directory structure to the logs directory C:\ColdFusion10\workInstance-01\logs.  So after creating the instance we need to go to "Debugging & Logging > Logging Settings"  in ColdFusion Administrator and change C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\logs to C:\ColdFusion10\workInstance-01\logs, the name of the instance being workInstance-01.

I hope this helps others who may be wondering where their logs went, oh and we have found we need to restart ColdFusion after the change so the changes are made.
