Java - JVM An Ever Expanding Realm

This is going to be an unusual post and only partly technology related.  In the past 12 months (since my last post here) I have become ever more involved in Permaculture, a truly regenerative agriculture/horticulture framework.  The recent IPCC Report (Inter-Governmental Panel On Climate Change) stated very clearly that traditional agriculture is a major cause of climate-change, climate-change which is impacting all of us to a greater or lesser extent.  So this past 12 months I have been spending ever more time on Permaculture, mainly because I am a great grandfather with a very serious stake in the future.  However I have brought technology into this picture by adapting an open-source program called farmOS and creating a localized food system tool called Permaledger; if you are interested you can see this here https://perma-ledger.com/ log in guest pword 123456789

This took quite a bit of my time and it brought together my two worlds of Permaculture and Technology.   In addition to these items I have also been studying blockchain-distributed ledger technologies, these are still slightly hyped up, however they are defitely technologies which will stay around and I do run the Eugene Blockchain Meetup and Hyperledger Eugene.  https://www.meetup.com/meetup-group-aynVxiTT/ and https://www.meetup.com/Hyperledger-Eugene/

Now that these are up and running I will be refocussing on Java and ColdFusion environments and in particular tuning the JVM; more on this soon.

Cloud Computing Costs & Reducing Them

I am looking into all of this to see if I can offer a service to target reducing costs in cloud-based environments, by tuning memory, threads, SQL and heavy-duty code.

Yes Application Performance Matters More Than Ever

"These ideas, moreover, don't just need to work in your local dev environment, they need to be performant at scale."
